DEVCON 1995: Day 1 -- Sunday, July 9.

Today's activities.

Today was check-in day, and the day the special classes were held. Everyone seemed happy with the roster, which included Dave Batton's 4D External-writing class, Jean-Pierre Ribreau's Advanced 4D class, Jeff Browning's "Coping with Windows" class, and Walt Nelson's Doing Business with ACIUS class. In all, an educational day.

In the evening, the attendees congregated in the lobby of the San Jose Fairmont hotel for drinks and getting re-acquanited with old friends. The big questions discussed were: Will 4D for Windows ship this year? Will 4D Universal ever see the light of day? Why is the big party being held in a sports bar this year?

The big news of the day.

The big rumor of the day is that attendees will be receiving a CD-ROM containing their very own personal copy of 4D for Windows, beta edition. We'll see what the next few days bring.

You didn't hear this from us:
Quotes, rumors, and just plain gossip.

We asked attendees for their best gossip and rumors, and where they thought 4th Dimension would be this time next year. Here are today's responses.

Microsoft will be opening a Paris database development office by this time next year. -- Anonymous Rumor
A year from now, 4D Universal will reach the "Real Soon Now" stage. -- George Tiller
