4D Summit 2000 Notes |
|
Overview These are my notes and photos from the 2000 4D Summit in sunny (ha!) San Diego, California. I've organized them into day-by-day pages. I include links to other Summit pages, and thanks to some folks who really helped out a lot. As I was taking notes and stuff, I told people that I called this "self-voyeurism" -- see if I am right. And please let me know if I spelled your name wrong; I'l lfix it if I did so your Mom won't be annoyed when she looks at your picture. Pointers to other Summit web pages. The 4D Summit Home Page: http://www.4DSummit.com/ (Who is the smiling guy with glasses in the picture, anyway?) Jeff Hopkins's excellent Summit page: http://www.hposoft.com/4dsumt2k.html I really like Jeff's page -- he obviously has a great love for the 4D community, and it was fun to see all of his pictures and read his commentary. I think his pictures have more of a genuineness to them than mine do; we'll have to compare notes next year, Jeff! The Kieth Page: http://www.think-different.com/KeithsGreatAdventure/ Tom Lundeen and Jim Rietz put together an entire virtual adventure for Kieth Goebel, who said he would be there but couldn't make it this year. Their creativity and rapier wit are unparalleled... and may I never, ever cross them! As Jim said, "we don't get upset, we just get you back." Special Thanks First, special thanks must go to Webwoman, a.k.a. Karen Green. WIthout her, I would be lost -- literally. She helped out a great deal, from helping me get names right to picking the tickets out of the hat in the game show. Thanks, Webwoman! Then, I must also thank Doug Hall, who shared his photos with me. Without Doug, I'd have no 4D-on-MacOS X screen shots to share. Thanks, Doug! And, I must also thank Jean-Pierre Boureau from 4D SA for sending me the very nice PowerView screen shots. Now we can all see what we're looking forward to! Merci, Jean-Pierre! Thanks also must go to Tim Tonooka of 4D Tech Support in San Jose. During the "Who Wants To Be An Engineer?" game show, Tim acted as the "phone a friend" lifeline and handled two support calls live from the show. Thanks, Tim! I am also grateful to Jim Staples of 4D, Inc. for his donation of the theme music for the "Who Wants To Be An Engineer?" game show. I played it as we were setting up the special equipment, and it really added to the mood. Next time we need an audio board op to make it swell in and out to add even more drama. Thanks, Jim! Thanks also to the following for donating prizes for the game show: 4D, Inc., ASG, DataCraft, and Walt Nelson. Thanks everybody!
