The local EarthLink dialup number is 407 367 6775. Thank God for dialup; it continues to work even when the hotel ISP has gone bankrupt (especially when they forgot to tell you).
There's a rumor that Walt Nelson will soon release a new shell for 4th Dimension programming.
We heard in Paul Carnine's code metrics class that there will be a special SanityCheck 4.0 plugin that checks Foundation's naming convention. This will be a real boon to all Foundation developers.
There was some discussion in Paul Carnine's code metrics class about a new mechanism that will allow DataCheck to be automatically launched by 4D at a predetermined time. Using this mechanism, 4D would quit itself and then signal DataCheck to run. DataCheck would run, and then when it was finished it would re-launch 4D. 4D could then post-process the log file, and for example e-mail it to a database administrator. This feature will probably appear in a future version of DataCheck.
Committed Software has released a new product called AutoDoc. This $89 4D plugin automatically generates documentation for a structure file, producing a set of XHTML files that cross-reference all methods. This tool is designed to produce formal end-user documentation or internal documentation.
There was some discussion in Paul Carnine's code metrics class about a carbonized version of DataCheck. Paul announced that he was working on DataCheck first because 4D Server was the first product for MacOS X. A carbonized SanityCheck will follow when people develop on MacOS X.
There is a rumor that on the Business Week website there is an article about David Lynch and 4th Dimension. This is what we found: http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/oct2001/nf20011016_1907.htm
Here is David Lynch's web site: http://www.davidlynch.com/
